With so much beauty and wonder out there in the world, you don’t have to do much arm-twisting to convince the majority of people to head out on vacation. But even though vacations can be wonderful and soul-inspiring, I know plenty of people still aren’t making time for leisure quite as often as they should! To that end, here are five sure-fire warning signs that you need to get out there in the world once again:
1st warning signs – You actually got angry at the alarm clock.
When your tank is running on empty and you haven’t taken a break in far too long, it starts to feel like no amount of sleep is enough. You might be getting the same amount you always get, but since you’re working so hard and pushing yourself to the limits, you’re just not catching up.
Your creativity is slipping.
What else happens to a person whose metaphorical gas tank is empty? They get stuck in routines, and those routines stop inspiring them to think new thoughts or to create new ideas. Whether you’re in a creative field or not, a lack of creativity can impact your overall productivity, and in turn, your career success. Not good.
You don’t feel like doing much after work.
You’d think that people are working hard would be dying to get out of there and to go enjoy their lives after work… but with that empty tank, there’s often nothing left for other activities. That means you need that spark back! For us an so many of our clients, the way to get that spark back is to wipe the slate clean, take a real break from work, and to have new experiences beyond our comfort zones.
You’re talking about work a little too often.
You know how it feels when you’re in the “zone” at work. You’re committed to the cause, you have your nose to the grindstone, and you’re getting stuff done. But keep that pace up too long and what’s the result? Total burnout. If you’ve been grinding on work and little else lately, it may be time to quit while you’re ahead.
Text messaging is how you’ve been communicating with your loved ones.
Final warning signs: Meanwhile, you’re not the only one who suffers when you spend too much time working and not enough time on your personal life. If you and your spouse or kids find yourselves hashing out the details of your lives together by text messages — or by notes scribbled on a notebook on the kitchen counter — then chances are, all of you need to reset your batteries and find ways to enjoy one another’s company again. Life is too short to see your family a mere minutes each day, every day of the year!
